I wrote this song back in 1999 and let's just say it was really cheesy. I wanted it to be a rock song, but just didn't have the instruments are really the recording gear to make that happen in a believable way.

Now that I do, I wanted to look at bring it back to life. I listened to it and almost determined there would be no hope. The lyrics had issues. There was a really horribly, cheesy bridge, and it was just ... terrible.

But I loved the message of the song and I loved how it was written from the viewpoint of Peter.

I had to rewrite it. The lyrics got an almost complete overhaul. The music was majorly adjusted and this is the result.

He told us that we would all forsake Him.
He said for this is what is written.
In order to fulfill the prophecy,
One of you will even betray me.

I told Him there is no way I could ever do this
It doesn’t matter what everyone else does
I could never, never, never, ever, never deny You.
No, I will never deny You. Even if I have to die with You.

His eyes looked sad as he told me
Even before this night is over,
Three times you will deny me
Before the rooster crows. (one, two, three)

I could not do it
Just what are you saying?
I will not deny You
For you are my Lord. You are my Lord

Then later on that evening
Betrayed with a kiss,
My Lord was arrested
I looked up at the soldiers and thought, “What’s up with this?”

I remember when Jesus said not to worry
For this is what must happen to fulfill prophecy
Don’t you even know I could call upon the angels?
And they would gladly come down here to set me free? And they would set me free!

Then they took my Lord away
And then I heard them say to me
You are known to follow Him
You will surely pay. We will make you pay.

Why did I do it?
What was I thinking?
Just how could I do this?
I denied the Lord. (one)

A girl from the crowd said she saw me
Said she saw me following Him
“No woman, I was not there.
I swear I do not know this Man.
I swear I do not know this Man.”
I swore I did not know that Man. (two)





Why did I do it?
What was I thinking?
I swore I did not know Him
I denied the Lord again.

A group of people gathered around me
They said that they were sure they saw me
In the crowd following Jesus
“I tell you again, I do not know Him” (three)

Why did I do it?
What was I thinking?
Why on Earth did I tell them
“This man I do not know”
